The Château d’Argenteuil at the 2026 Heritage Days

Ferdinand de Meeûs, a key figure in the rise of newly independent Belgium, had the château built in 1856 by Cluysenaar, the master of eclecticism, with the park designed by A. Keilig, the landscape architect behind the Bois de la Cambre. The château impresses with its monumental exterior and interior dimensions, its original style, and its enchanting surroundings, offering fine views, remarkable trees, and garden follies. Home to the European School of Brussels-Argenteuil, the visit will be hosted by its teachers and students. Visitors will be able to picture life in the château — the layout of the rooms remains unchanged — stroll through the gallery, the park, and the grotto, and see how the school is working to restore the park to its original state while practicing permaculture there.
