What is the difference between the European Baccalaureate and the International Baccalaureate?
The European Baccalaureate offers a structured multilingual curriculum that mandates the study of several subjects in a foreign language and places significant weight on continuous assessment.
The International Baccalaureate, created by the private IBO (International Baccalaureate Organization), offers greater flexibility in subject choices and is based on a global pedagogical model focused on critical thinking, independent research (Extended Essay), and civic engagement (CAS program).
How does multilingualism work at EEBA?
Courses are divided into language sections. A student enrolls in a dominant language section because European Schools believe that a strong foundation in the dominant language is the best way to facilitate the learning of other languages.
However, children are exposed to several languages simultaneously. Learning follows a “crescendo” approach over the years, culminating in a trilingual or even quadrilingual curriculum.
