The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) is for students aged 16-19.The programme aims to develop students who have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge – students who flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically.

The International Baccalaureate® Diploma Programme is recognized by universities world wide. Evidence suggests that higher rates of DP students go on to university and higher education study than non-IB students. 

The Diploma Programme curriculum is made up of six subject groups and three core subjects, comprising theory of knowledge, creativity, activity, service and the extended essay.

Through the core subjects, students reflect on the nature of knowledge, complete independent research and undertake a project that often involves community service.

Campus d’Argenteuil has a 35 year tradition of preparing students for the International Baccalaureate. Today, the European School of Bruxelles-Argenteuil is taking this tradition into its hands.

The International Baccalaureate Curriculum

The curriculum is made up of the DP core and six subject groups. The core subjects are mandatory just as the student must choose one subject from each of the first five groups. The sixth subject is free of choice. Each student takes at least three (but not more than four) subjects at higher level, and the remaining at standard level. Standard level subjects take up 150 teaching hours. Higher level comprises 240 teaching hours.

Below is the list of subjects that will be offered on Campus. Please note that a minimum students may be necessary for a subject to be offered. Online options for specific courses are and can also be offered. Feel free to contact our IBDP coordinator for more information and regarding the possibility of applying to a course not mentioned in this list.

    1. English A – Higher and Standard level
    2. Swedish A – Higher and Standard level
  2. Group 2: Language acquisition
    1. French B – Higher and Standard level
    2. Spanish B – Higher and Standard level
  3. Group 3: Individual and societies:
    1. History – Higher and Standard level
    2. Economics – Higher and Standard level
    3. Business management – Higher and Standard level
    4. Environmental systems and societies (SL only, group 3 or 4)
  4. Group 4: Sciences:
    1. Biology – Higher and Standard level
    2. Chemistry – Higher and Standard level
    3. Physics – Higher and Standard level
  5. Group 5: Mathematics:
    1. Analysis and approaches – Higher and Standard level
    2. Applications and interpretation – Higher and Standard level
  6. Group 6: The Arts:
    1. Visual Arts – Higher and Standard level
    2. Students may opt to study an additional sciences, individuals and societies, or languages course, instead of a course in the arts
